Understanding AMH and It's Impact on Reproductive Health
I want to talk about a recurring topic that has come up recently. Some friends and readers of the newsletter have asked for my thoughts on AMH. While I'm not a doctor and encourage everyone to discuss this in-depth with their doctors, this newsletter provides a safe and excellent space to discuss this topic. The knowledge we gain here can be a source of hope and optimism. AMH is something I've encountered in my IVF journey, and it's also something that requires a deep dive. In the upcoming issues, we will dedicate some time to discuss AMH and its impact on reproductive health. If this topic doesn't resonate with you, I'm sure you know someone who could benefit from this knowledge.
đź“š What is AMH?
Have you ever heard of AMH? 🤔 It's a game-changer in the world of reproductive health!
AMH stands for Anti-MĂĽllerian Hormone. It's a protein hormone produced by cells in the ovaries. This little hormone plays a significant role in controlling the development of follicles in the ovaries, which are crucial for ovulation and fertility.
How Are AMH Levels Measured?
Measuring AMH levels is pretty straightforward. It's done through a simple blood test.

The best part? The test can be done anywhere in your menstrual cycle, making it super convenient. Doctors use this measure to get a sense of your ovarian reserve—that's a fancy way of saying how many eggs you have left.
Have you done or asked your doctor to perform this test? If you’re looking to start a family, it’s highly recommended that you do this to understand where you stand and how much time you have.
A Little History Lesson
How did we discover this magical hormone? 🧙‍♀️
In 1947, a scientist named Alfred Jost first identified it while studying the development of male and female reproductive organs in rabbits. Since then, researchers have been deep into understanding AMH and its implications for fertility.
